It has been my honor to serve as President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (MCACS) for the past 2 years. I am eager to host this year's 65th Annual Meeting that will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Rocco Ricciardi, Chair of the Program Committee for the 2018 Annual Meeting, has planned an exceptional educational program. We will present resident research prize awards and the 6th Annual Dr. Joseph E. Murray Resident Research Prize for Basic Science. The annual meeting also includes the 8th annual "Top Gun" competition which will be held on Saturday afternoon. More

Please review the 2018 bylaws amendment proposed by the MCACS Council to change all officer's terms to 1 year to allow more opportunities for Council members to serve in these leadership positions. Currently, the President serves 1 year as President-Elect, 2 years as President and 1 year as Past-President. The Secretary and Treasurer currently each serve 3 years and with the change in bylaws would still be able to serve longer than 1 year if re-elected. This bylaw amendment will be voted on at the Annual Business Meeting. You may Read bylaws amendment.

The Council of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (MCACS) is accepting nominations for a resident to serve as a member of the MCACS Council, which develops policies and procedures for the Chapter and oversees its activities. The term is two years beginning when the resident is a PGY 3. The requirements for candidates to be considered are strong leadership skills and an interest in serving. The Council meets four times a year in February/March, May, September/October and December. To nominate a candidate to be considered by the Council, please email their CV along with a brief description about the candidate to Maria Favazza, by Monday, November 26, 2018.
The Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (MCACS) will sponsor one surgery resident to attend the 2019 ACS Leadership Conference and Advocacy Summit, which will be held March 30 to April 2, 2019 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC. The recipient will be reimbursed for his/her travel expenses and registration.
To be considered for the MCACS competition, the resident must be in an ACGME-approved Massachusetts surgery residency training program, and submit a brief essay on why he/she wants to attend the conference and the role of advocacy in health care. The statement should be limited to 1 typed page (double spaced, 12 point font). Essays, along with the residents’ CVs, should be submitted by email to the MCACS administrative offices. The deadline for entries is Monday, January 7, 2019.
The MCACS is pleased to acknowledge member and industry support for the 64th Annual Meeting in 2017
